Wade O. Brown
Complete
(GrooveUnited)
With artists like Glenn Lewis or Remy Shand hailing from Canada there's certainly a soul/black music scene that's no worse than the one in the US of A. And with Wade O. Brown you get one of the best singers Canada has to offer. Unlike the aforementioned musicians Wade decided to stay in Canada and release his album on the independent label GrooveUnited.
Blessed with the perfect crooner voice in the style of for example Teddy Pendergrass or Christopher Williams (and on You're So Beautiful he sounds a lot like Christopher) it's not a surprise that Complete concentrates on downtempo and midtempo songs. And Wade has some real quality songs to offer like the ballad Intuition, the swinging midtempo Fool In Love (ft. Divine Earth Essence) or the jazz influenced Give Me The Chance.
There's even a great cover version of Sting's If You Love Somebody (Set Them Free), and since I'm not a fan of Sting it's one of those rare occasions where the cover version surpasses the original.
Except for the remix of (I'm) All About You there's really no dull track here and it's just one of those albums that are perfect for a long winter night with some nice company and a bottle of red wine and stuff like that.
