Regina Belle
This is Regina
(Peak Records)

There's no denying Regina's vocal abilties but for me she always lacked that special something on her previous records and suffered from more inferior song material. But with her debut release for Peak Records (the label that also released fine albums by Miki Howard and Phil Perry for example) Regina's really up to what she should've recorded years ago. This time we get mostly quality songs (some of them co-written by Regina) produced by Barry J. Eastmond, Chris Robinson & Ira Antelis, Bernard Belle and Sam Sims & Darrell Smith.
Except for the too modern sounding R&B/Pop-like MC Lyte featuring La Da Di (at least for my ears) This Is Regina consists of ballad. But we all know that it is usually the downtempo material you can listen to in the future, whereas uptempo stuff often sounds dated some years down the line.
From Now On is a duet with another artist who had had his success back in the 80ies, Glenn Jones (really would like to know if there's a new Glenn jones album coming in the near future). Gotta Get Over This Love is one of these songs about a lost love you wanna have back right now but you know it won't work and the best thing is to get over it and forget about the (not so) special one. And the rest is perfect for all those cold winter nights when you're sitting in front of the chimney on a sipping on a nice red wine and lying on a polar bear fur...either with Mr(s). Right, Mr(s). Right-Now or another (not) so special one or alone...
