Maysa
Out Of The Blue
(N-Coded Music)
Out Of The Blue is Maysa Leak's third solo album. If you don't know her from her previous albums All My Life (from 2000) or Maysa (from 1995) you might recognize her voice from some Incognito's records.
Produced by Rex Rideout Out Of The Blue is an album one might expect from Maysa, so there are no real surprises here. Just good and soulful music.
Although there are some cover versions here like Jhelisa Anderson's Friendly Pressure (even Maysa couldn't beat the original version in my opinion), Earth Wind & Fire's Head To The Sky (I must admit I don't know the original version, so Maysa's version is fine for me) and Sly & The Family's Stone Family Affair (which is done in an uptempo more Incognito-way with flute, percussion etc. and thus is good because it's different from the original and all the 1000 other cover versions of this song) the whole impression of Out Of The Blue is very coherent and the cover versions fit into the context set by Maysa'a and Rex Rideout's own compositions.
With the expected more relaxed soul/jazz songs here like Out Of The Blue, Blue Horizon, Simple Life (co-sung by Will Downing) or Everything this is certainly a very good album, but I'm not so sure if it will win Maysa any new fans although Maysa is really friendly and says Thank You to everyone for buying her record on the Interlude of the same name at the end of the album.
