Kloud 9
On Kloud 9
(Expansion)
Another quality release from the Expansion label. This time it's the debut release from Kelvis and Kendall Duffie. If you bought the Soul Steppin' compilation from 1999 on Expansion you may know their Make You Mine.
Most of the songs were written and produced by Kendall, Never Knew was recorded together with Ray Hayden (good to hear something of Mr. Opaz once again), Let's Not Lose features Karen Bernod, Promises features Incognito and on Make You Mine Kirk Whalum plays the saxophone. So you may get an impression what the Duffie twin-brothers have to offer musicwise: soulmusic with a little jazz-fusion influence. Only the last 3 songs (Lullaby For K.C., On Kloud 9 and Keep Me Coming Around) sound very smooth jazz like and thus are more something to be heard in luxury elevators. But with 13 other fine songs on offer there's enough value for money here.
