Kavita
Stay True
(Flipside)

From one of London's finest record labels, Flipside, that also brought us Victor Davies' Brother, Kerri Chandler's Jazz Café or Bougie Soliterre's Besides You, comes Kavita's first album after six 12" releases. You may as well know Kavita from Superficial on Quiet Roit Records (that also appeared on a Naked Music compilation). Kavita Singh hails from Canada like Flipside's labelhead Bettina Costanzo (Vancouver respectively Montreal).
All songs on offer are remixed 12" versions that appeared on the 12"es before like the Bougie Soliterre Main Vocal Mix of Stay True...but then Bettina Costanzo is Bougie Soliterre and she co-wrote the song with Kavita, so that may as well be the original version. By the way Kavita wrote or co-wrote all the songs herself.
If you missed it on good old vinyl the first time around you can get it on CD this time (as well as double vinyl). All of Kavita's previous released songs are here (Stay True, Everyday, Gypsy, All and Big & Little Lies). New songs are Tribute (here as a Blak Beat Niks Remix) and Simple Things (remixed by Dennis Ferrer).
Ok, Kavita hasn't the deepest soulful voice known to mankind, but it's recognizable and fits very well to her uptempo material that's more a mixture of house and nu-disco (listen to Big & Little Lies and you see the mirror ball rotating). All in all this album is worthwhile if you look for some uptempo stuff done with conviction.
