Jersey Street
After The Rain
(Glasgow Underground)
Jersey Street are Neil Reid, Matt Steele and Dawn Zee on vocals. After The Rain is already their second album. Jersey Street's debut album on Glasgow Underground Step Into The Light from 2000 was such a fine album that combined house, latin and soul. But it was vastly overlooked may it because it was on GU or because of the rather meaningless cover. And it really doesn't look like things may change with After The Rain. I doubt that someone will have a closer look at this CD just because of the cover. But that's not our loss who all bought Jersey Street's first album.
Manchester's finest band did it again. They wrote, produced and recorded a diverse album made of 9 songs that combine house, soul, latin and even some jazz. Just listen to When Lovers Meet, a fine soul song with a nice jazzy feel and worth the album alone. But we get other good songs like the title track, the modern soul song After The Rain (that reminds me a little of Cooly's Hot Box which isn't a bad thing) or the equal appealing Rhythm Of Love. Combined with the latin inspired I Travelled The World or Born Again (which happens to be the first 12" single) and house songs like Wipe Those Tears Away or Body, Soul And Mind we get another quality album that's really worth to check out. So miss it at your own peril! Why wait til tomorrow when you can get tomorrow's rare groove today?
