Eddie M

(Goldcircle)

Eddie M is of course Eddie Mininfield the saxplayer of Prince and Sheila E. back in the 80ies. And like so many other musicians from that era he's still doing records today. I have to admit, I didn't know Eddie could really sing but on Baby Leave The Lights On, My Love Goes With You, Girl To A Woman (with Eric Benet on BV), What Does It Take (with Karyn White on BV - whatever happened to her??) and Don't Give Up On Love he proves better, his voices is a little reminiscent of Luther Vandross and fits nicely into the soul/jazz arrangements. Like one expects Eddie also plays Alto and Soprano Sax, unfortunately some of the instrumental songs tend more into the Smooth Jazz/sophisticated elevator music genre...just like the inclusion of the schmaltzy Sailing (yes, the song by Christopher Cross) shows. Or maybe it's just me being hypercritical? Still worth buying for Mr. M's singing!
