Su Su Bobien
Su Su Bobien was born Roni Susette Montgomery on November 4, 1975 and raised in Newark, New Jersey. She began singing at the age of five. Her father a minister, introduced her to gospel, the music that forms Su Su's musical foundation. By the time Su Su was ten, she was winning first and second place at local talent shows including the Apollo Theatre, which she won first place. Su Su and her childhood friend Faith Evans, began singing professionally with some of the biggest names in gospel music, Rev. Jeff Banks, Shirley Caesar, and Dorothy Norwood to name a few. Influenced by the versatile styles of The Clark Sisters, Jennifer Holiday, and Oleta Adams, Su Su began to experiment with different variations of melodic melodies not associated with traditional gospel.
"She likes to take the melody and run riffs like a alto sax", keeping all the emotions associated with gospel. Su Su wanting only to sing positive and uplifting music, would not sing any other music until she was introduced to house music by her ex-husband Kenny Bobien. While singing backup with Kenny, Su Su appreciated the freedom house music brings. It brings a variation of many styles moving to a four on the floor rhythm. "It's an extension of gospel music with an uplifted beat," says Su Su. The rest is history, She recorded three tracks with B.O.P. productions "He'll Be There", "Gonna Miss You" and her latest anthem, "Thank You." Su Su continues her tours around the world with the Harlem Gospel Singers and works closely with Queen Esther Moro. Su Su hooked up with Ce Ce Rogers, a house legend, and recorded "Another Story", "Dancing in the Spirit" and "You Don't Know." Ce Ce, who is respected through out the world as one of the pioneers of house music, encouraged Su Su to explore her sultry jazz style to complement her vocal skills. Rapidly gaining acclaim both in the United States and Europe, Su Su is a talent to look out for this millennium.
