Babyface What If
On What If Babyface talks with a mutual friend of his ex-girlfriend about his ex. And he wants her back so badly because he thinks they were destined for each other: "What if we were wrong about each other/ What if you were really made for me/ What if we were s'pose to be together/ Would that not mean anything/ What if that was s'pose to be my house/ That you go home everyday/ How can you be sure that things are better/ If you can't be sure your heart/ Ain't still here with/ Still wanting me". Fits perfectly into the topic of this compilation.

Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes The Love I Lost
Lamenting about a lost love always includes the wish to have it back. But like experience teaches the most of us, usually it doesn't work and for all the cases where it has worked out there'll be the Back Together compilation.

The O'Jays Searching For The Love I Lost
That's more a story of looking for a old flame after much time has passed. Sometimes time doesn't heal all wounds.
|
 |
Vesta Running Into Memories
Storytelling soul from 1988 where Vesta finds old stuff of an ex-boyfriend and that causes her to run into memories...although she tries to call him, she puts the receiver down as soon as he answers. Like with the O'Jays song sometimes you just can't get over somone.

Bernadette Cooper Nothin' You Can Do
The always self-aware Mrs Cooper is without restraints when it comes to claiming what's hers, even though her ex-boyfriend has a new flame. But someone who will quit her job and give up her friends (see Stupid on Being In Love) certainly expect the same passion from her partner. So be warned if someone gives up his or her previous life!

Wall Of Sound Disappear
"You'll never miss something until it's gone" nothing more to add!

Sandra St. Victor Knocked Up & Locked Down / Since You Been Gone
If there ever was a song that dealt with unfulfilled love or a neglected lover then it's this masterpiece by Sandra St. Victor. Beginning very dark lyric- and musicwise with "Spinning in circles, alone at heart again/ Dancing with shadows waiting for you to come in/ Don't know nothing, don't know shit/ But I know if you were here with me, I'd know it all again/ There you were, a vision from the suburbs of my mind/ Just when my light of hope was burning dim, you came/ Send shivers up my spine" and evolving to a climax where you ask yourself if the singer has jumped from the bridge in the end.
On Since You Been Gone Sandra is more generous and knows she was the one who did wrong: "I’ve been waiting for someone like you to appear, I’ve been waiting for what feels like a hundred years/ Since you been gone/ Guess I can admit it I went through a crazy phase/ But I thought I needed a little time and space/ I just lay awake crying all through the night/ Cause no other can enter this heart of mine like you did". Guess it's all about forgiveness if you want someone back.

Marvin Gaye When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You
Judging this from the context of the album Here My Dear (that Marvin dedicated to his then ex-wife Anna Gaye) this is more a song to make you recall all the things you did together and maybe that'll makes you realize that you don't want a divorce or separation.

Macy Gray Still
Although Macy tells us how her lover has mistreated her (just like Billie Holiday told us in My Man) she still wants to be with him...strange case in my opinion...but love makes no sense and all is fair in love and war...

Aaron Hall I Miss You
Another aptly titled song for this compilation that really needs no further comment.

 |
Yvonne Jackson If Tears Are Only Water
"then crying's just the sound/ Why, oh why can't I get over you", great piece of southern soul that do the business everytime you're still in love with someone...

Kerri Chandler ft. Dee Dee Brave Mookie's Bio
The spoken bio over a typical Kerri Chandler housetrack of a woman about the pleasures with her ex-boyfriend. Although she says she'd get over it, you know when listen to all the things she talks about that she has to go a very long way to get over that man. Something of an update from a woman's point of view of Marvin Gaye's When Did You Stop...

Danny Madden It's Alright Now
What seems to be a song about a man who's over his last, lost love and at long last accepts this fact is really more a song about the topic that he wants a reunion, hidden in the last verse: "I'm not the kind to give up/ Without a fight but I know/ Some things you just cannot change/ I want you here in my life/ By my side, for all time/ Baby, won't you come home".

Tashan Still In Love
"Time changes everything/ I guess time changed you/ Did time changed you/ I wanna fight for our love/ But I need you, I need you to show me how/ Funny how things change/ Sometimes things change/ Just when they seem to be going right" that's an obvious choice for a song about a lost love you want to have back...but if it's done like this with a voice like Tashan's I guess nobody can resist the plea to come back.
