Charles Earland
One For Scotty (from Soul Story)
Super heavy Hammond driven groove as you'd expect from Mr Earland . If Acid Jazz was still around today this would be one of it's anthems. Pounding drums with driving horns, chugging guitar and loads of solos.

Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers
Let Love Find You (from Heat)
Re-released on BGP , this is a heavy beat, mid tempo Latin groove. Haunting vibes and driving male vocals - Wicked!

Ramsey Lewis
Eternal Journey (from Maiden Voyage)
In my opinion one of Ramsey's finest moments, among many. Cleveland Eaton laying down a solidly driven bass line. Hauntingly psychedelic strings and vocals, reminiscent of Rotary Connection, which would be the Charles Stepney connection, as he produced this album. Psychedelic jazz - yeah.

Jerry Peters
Melinda Latino (from Melinda OMPST)
Excellent Soul Jazz groove with sweeping strings and melodic horns all led by a guitar that sounds like a sitar. One of my favourite blaxploitation tracks - Pure bliss.

Don Ellis Orchestra
Turkish Bath (from Electric Bath)
A fairly new discovery for me but I have since been blown away by his tracks. This is a full on orchestra playing to a solid clav, Rhodes and sitar groove, there's that word again. One for the head strong that is to be played loud. Psychedelic or what. This would go down a storm in any of the funkier Jazz clubs. A track that takes you on a world tour from Latin to Indian to Arabic.

Deodato
Prelude To Afternoon Of A Faun (from Prelude)
This is just the middle part of the track, as this part completely blows me away. A Rhodes led, conga and bass driven groove with melodic flute and trumpet. Deodato is a heavy influence of mine. Awesome.

Buddy Rich
Big Mac (from The Roar of '74)
Drum and bass groove with heavy psychedelic guitar from Joe Beck. Monstrous horns make this a powerful track. Another for the Funky Jazz clubs. Totally mind blowing, this track takes no prisoners.

Agent K
Hands (from Feed The Cat)
This is an awesome track. Agent K , or Kaidi Tatham, must be one of the hardest working musicians in London, at the moment. He seems to be involved with everything coming out of the city. He is playing keys, extra drums, percussion and Hammond on this track. Excellent vocals from Joy Jones and Vanessa Freeman add to an exceptional track that just builds and builds. Is there nothing this guy can't do. This track deserves greatness.

Johnny Hammond
Star Borne (from Gambler's Life)
One of my, all time, favourite, classic tracks from the keyboard wizard. A totally mesmerising track. Luscious synths and Rhodes with drifting vocal harmonies and loads of wah wah guitar over a head nodding groove. Produced by my favourite, Larry Mizell, who, with his brother, Fonce, also contribute musically to this astral track.

Roy Ayers
Can You Dig It
The king of the funky vibes hits hard with this Edwin Birdsong penned, slamming track .A distorted vibes, heavy bass groove. Solid drums with a West Coast fusion feel to it - far out man! From one of his earlier albums .This guy is a real hero of mine.

Herbie Mann
Muscle Shoals Nitty Gritty
West Coast groove at it's best. With other albums like Memphis Underground, Herbie Mann was prolific in nailing this style. Driving drums and heavy chugging guitar licks, try not to nod your head. Features a guy Herbie helped to establish ,Roy Ayers. What a combination ,wicked flute and dancing vibes on an hypnotic, hip swayer.
